Roadwork starts tomorrow on a project to signalize the northbound State Route 99 off ramp at Elkhorn Boulevard in north Natomas.

The project will also add a free right-turn lane from the northbound off ramp to eastbound Elkhorn Boulevard and widen Elkhorn Boulevard from the State Route 99 northbound off-ramp to approximately 1,100 feet east of East Commerce Way.

City officials expect the road improvements will reduce traffic congestion and eliminate backups from the northbound off ramp onto the freeway mainline.

The estimated project cost is $2 million which is being funded by Proposition 1B and local transportation funds. The contract for the work was awarded to Teichert Construction in July 2013.

Construction is scheduled to begin on May 5 and completed by the end of July.

Thanks, T.M., for the tip!
