THE NATOMAS BUZZ | @natomasbuzz

This year’s recipients of 50 Bikes for 50 Kids was announced today by the North Natomas Transportation Management Association.

Bike recipients were nominated by members of the local community. Youngsters were selected because they demonstrated trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.

The 50 Bikes for 50 Kids community service event matches 50 youth with teams of volunteers who assemble a bike for each child on the team. Volunteers hail from local community organizations and businesses, and range from bike enthusiasts to mechanical novices.

Prior to the event, volunteers attend a class taught by professional mechanics to learn how to build a bike. Mentors then share these skills with the youngsters on their team who will help assemble their own bike on Jan. 20, 2014 – Martin Luther King Jr. Day and the National Day of Service.
