Discovery High School senior Jennifer Estrada is currently the student representative for the Natomas Unified School District board of trustees.

Estrada, 17, was nominated by teachers at Discovery High and completed an interview process to gain the position. Her role on the board is to represent the Natomas school district’s student population.

“I wanted the experience of being on the school board,” she said. “There are a lot of students at Discovery who have strong opinions but don’t voice them, I wanted to give them an opportunity to express their concerns.”

Estrada attends school board meetings once a month. She takes notes about the meetings and shares them with students and teachers at Discovery High. She then reports back to the elected board members questions or concerns from students.

“It’s been really fun to serve on the school board,” she said. “I’m learning a lot and it’s helping me with my public speaking skills.”

Estrada is also the All Student Body president at Discovery High School. She plans to attend American River College and major in Radiology.
