Harvey Woo was sworn in Monday as the new chief of police for the Twin Rivers Unified School District Police Department.

Woo took the oath of office during a ceremony officiated by Superintendent Dr. Steven Martinez on July 22. He is a retired lieutenant with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department with more than two decades of law enforcement experience.

“I’m very excited and humbled,” said Woo, who will oversee a department with 25 sworn officers. “This is a big responsibility, and I feel very comfortable moving forward in building a department with the same focus and mission as the district—to inspire each student to extraordinary achievement every day.”

Chief Woo has a master’s degree in emergency services administration from California State University, Long Beach, and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from California State University, Sacramento. He is also a graduate of the 247th class of the FBI National Academy.

Woo began his career as a deputy with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department in 1988, was promoted to sergeant in 2000 and lieutenant in 2004.
