The Sacramento Police Department is investigating the death of a 9-year-old Natomas boy.

At about 11:52 p.m. last night, the Sacramento Police Department received two emergency calls from a residence on the 2200 block of Atrisco Circle.

Police arrived within minutes and located a non-responsive 9-year-old boy inside the home. The juvenile appeared to have suffered blunt force trauma to his head. He was declared dead at the scene.

Officers spoke with relatives at the scene and established a large perimeter around the residence. About 15 minutes later, the victim’s father was located walking in a nearby neighborhood.

Phillip Raymond Hernandez, 36, was detained without incident and was booked in the Sacramento County Jail; no bail has been set

Sacramento Police Homicide Detectives and CSI were called out to assist with the investigation. The investigation is on-going and a motive is unclear at this time. It appears both the victim and his father were living at the home, along with other relatives, at the time of his death.
