Sacramento police have arrested a man for allegedly exposing himself and publicly masturbating yesterday in Natomas.

“It’s a good time to remind our kids what to do when they’re approached by strangers because we’re very fortunate in this case that the children were not harmed,” police spokesman Doug Morse said.

At about 2:19 p.m. two 10-year-old children were walking near North Bend Drive and Natomas Boulevard when an adult male walked up and started to talk to them.

According to police, the man took something from the hands of the 10-year-old girl and exposed himself before she and the boy she was walking with ran away. The victim told police she also saw the man touch his own genitals.

“These two young children did the right thing,” Morse said. “They ran and got help and that’s how we were able to catch him so fast. They called and we responded.”

Police apprehended Emerson Garrad, 37, a short time later and took him into custody without incident.

Garrard was arrested on some outstanding warrants and booked in the Sacramento County Jail on charges of robbery and lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14.
