Fireworks (Not Gunfire) Over Natomas

Those who reported hearing loud booming sounds can rest easy.

The noise was made by fireworks being shot south of Del Paso Road, near PB Pavilion, the residual smoke is visible in this photo taken in the Park Place Shopping Center on Natomas Boulevard.

The fire department is out with pyrotechnics. They are running drills. 

Sacpd received several calls of shots fired in the area of Kokomo Park. Officers confirmed with witnesses it was the fireworks.

Seen In Natomas: Free Ticket To Ride

Lawn signs like this one alerted Natomas Crossing residents of a new door-hanger campaign by the North Natomas Transportation Management Association for Regional Transit.

A select group of 2,500 residences in two specific locations were chosen to receive a free daily transit pass to be used one day over a two-week period in April. The passes were delivered to Natomas Crossing homes and the apartment complexes directly on Natomas Boulevard, north of North Bend, on Monday.

The areas were selected in part because of their convenient location to the Route 11 bus.

"This is our first time doing anything like this, we hope we will see a bump in RT ridership and will be keeping close track of the numbers this month to assess the interest of residents," said Sarah Janus,  NNTMA program coordinator. "We want to raise awareness, as well, of public transit available in the area."

Arrests Made In Northgate Homicide

The Sacramento Police Department has arrested two suspects in the shooting death of 19-year-old Rashad Alexander.

On March 12 at about 12:46 a.m. officers responded to a call of gun shots heard in the 3200 block of Northgate Boulevard. Officers arrived and found Alexander shot;  he was declared dead at the scene.

During the investigation, detectives learned another man had been brought to the hospital in critical condition with gunshot wounds. It was determined the unidentified man was injured at the scene of the Northgate incident.

The investigation let Arlonzo Banks, 29, and Herbert Alvarez Jr., 19, as suspects in the shooting death of Alexander. Detectives believe that the suspects confronted the victim while he was in the parking lot of American Spirit Bar, shot and killed him. Investigators believe that the incident is gang related.

On March 31 homicide detectives and the Career Criminal Apprehension Team along with assistance from the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office arrested Banks and Alvarez without incident.

At the time of the shooting, there was a large crowd of people in the parking lot.
