Charges Filed In Natomas Stabbing

D. LAWRENCE
The Sacramento Police Department has arrested 35-year-old Dawayne Lawrence for the murder of Adam Steinbach last month.

On May 31 11:12 p.m. officers responded to a call a person lying on the side of the road near Del Paso and Northgate boulevards. Officers found a man, later identified as 29-year-old Adam Steinbach, dead at the scene from stab wounds.
Shortly after officers arrived on the homicide scene, they received a call for a vehicle on fire near Academy Way and Kathleen Avenue. It was later determined the burning vehicle belonged to the stabbing victim.

Police detectives think Steinbach, who was between residences at the time of the crime, was parked on the side of the road sleeping. It is believed Lawrence tried to burglarize Steinbach’s vehicle which woke him and resulted in a confrontation.
During the confrontation, Lawrence reportedly stabbed Steinbach causing his death. Detectives believe Lawrence took the victim’s vehicle and burned it in an attempt to conceal evidence.

Police investigators linked Lawrence to the crime and on June 7 the Career Criminal Apprehension Team located him in the 2400 block of Empress Way. Lawrence initially put a knife to his own throat, but eventually surrendered to the officers.
Lawrence was booked into jail at that time on a parole violation. Three days later, on June 10, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office filed charges charging Lawrence with murder.
