Written By NatomasBuzz.com on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 | 9:12 PM

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell last week named the state's top 2010 Classified School Employees of the Year, including Cindy Mangan the school secretary at Regency Park Elementary School.

"I am proud to announce the selection of six remarkable people who provide enormous support and expertise that is key to their schools' work to improve student achievement and close the achievement gap," said O'Connell. "They represent the best of California's dedicated school support community that is integral to school site operations and the success of our students."

The annual program honors six outstanding classified school employees, each representing one of the following categories: child nutrition, maintenance and operations, office and technical support, para-educator and instructional assistance, support services and security, and transportation.

Ms. Mangan has been the school secretary at the Regency Park Elementary School for five years and a school secretary for more than 20 years.

"Cindy's daily work, focus to detail, and commitment to relationships is greatly responsible for building our school's positive culture," states Principal Mike Reed. "Everyone knows they can count on Cindy to support them, follow through on her commitments, and meet any timelines required."

Students at Natomas Park Elementary School are caught on camera this morning by the Fox 40 news team gearing up for "May Is Bike Month."

The North Natomas TMA today kicked off its month-long "May Is Bike Month" campaign with a series of assemblies held at neighborhood school campuses.

Throughout the month, the schools will participate in the May is Bike Month challenge, by logging the miles students ride to school or for recreation. The school that logs the most miles wins the challenge.

Also called "Million Mile May," this regional effort encourages cycling as transportation to improve air quality and promote health. Grownups can participate too by bicycling for work, errands or recreation and logging their miles at MayisBikeMonth.com.

Other "May Is Bike Month" events in Natomas include:
  • May 15 at 8:30 a.m. a breakfast ride to New Roma Bakery from the North Natomas TMA offices, 1960 Del Paso Road, Suite 146.
  • May 20 from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Free Bike to Work Day breakfast hosted by the North Natomas TMA on Truxel Road at the Arco Arena entrance.
