City To Award Fire Station Design-Build Contract

Written By NatomasBuzz.com on Monday, November 23, 2009 | 9:47 AM

The Sacramento City Council has on its agenda this week an item that will move plans for a new North Natomas fire station one step closer to completion.

Among the council's "consent" items is a resolution that would authorize a design-build contract with Unger Construction, Inc. for the North Natomas Fire Station No. 43 project, not to exceed $5.3 million. The project budget includes all design services, administration, fees, permits, construction, furniture fixtures and all equipment necessary to provide a fully functional and operating facility.

The city decided to suspend competitive bidding for the project in favor of the design-build model to ensure the station would be complete by summer 2011. The station will provide offices and support services for 12 employees plus a three-bay apparatus area to house a fire truck, engine and ambulance.

Unger Construction, Inc.'s bid was one of 12 submitted. It was selected as the most qualified design-build team to complete the work. Click here for more information.

People Are Talking About ...

The Natomas neighborhood is aBUZZ with online chatter about a new American Society of Civil Engineers publication "So, You Live Behind A Levee!"

The 17-page booklet details the four "facts" about levees: flooding will happen, no levee is flood-proof, risks associated with flooding vary, and actions taken now will save lives and property.
A levee is a man-made structure designed and constructed to control the flow of water.

"This booklet should be required reading for all Natomas residents!" writes Keith Sharward, Co-founder and Board Member, Witter Ranch Community Alliance. "Five stars."
